ASHA

Health monitoring app

ASHA is a community of health workers instituted by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as a part of the National Rural Health Mission.

ASHA workers are local women in the villages of India who are trained as health educators and monitors.

One key function that they do is to monitor and maintain health records of pregnant women in the village.

Currently, they maintain records using booklets. Now that every ASHA worker has a smartphone of her own and most villages have mobile networks, a mobile application can help them perform their tasks with ease and better reliability.

User Scenario

Amruta is an ASHA worker. She knows that Parvati has been pregnant for 6 months and has been registered in the ASHA database.

She visits Parvati home and retrieves Parvati’s records.

(Searching for a specific report from an ocean of data brings cognitive load to the user.)

In order to simplify this with just one tap on the screen, the home page begins with Amrutha’s schedule for that particular day. This helps Amruta to clearly find out Parvati’s records.

The record includes demographic information about Parvati as well as earlier recorded pregnancy information such as last menstrual period, age of the foetus, the expected date of delivery, and data over the last six months for weight, blood sugar and blood pressure.
